Legacy Of Emptiness - Legacy Of Emptiness

Genre: Symphonic Black/Pagan Metal
Country: Norway

This Norwegian band took me by surprise as soon as I started listening to their album witch starts out with a "John Lord" sounding intro!

They deliver solid metal with very powerful synth parties that gives me an epic/medieval feeling at times blended with great guitar solos.
The synth parts can at times remind a bit of Nightwish beautiful compositions, but besides that there is no similarities and this bands stand on their own musically.

A very uplifting album this is and the more I listen the more I like it! They have some descent ambient parts as well, just listen to "Valley Of Unrest.
Poweful & majestic compositions at it's best, the tempo varies trough the album some are slower and the faster reminds more of synth based black metal.

I have to state that I like the slower songs better, since the compositions is easier to hear on these, that beein said I cannot really find one negative aspect on the album except maybe it would be nice if they had used the clean vocal more.

Even though I've heard several attempts of trying to create what these guys do,this does not get boring at all and the sound is top notch!
So I suggest you check this album as soon as possible if you like a solid dose of athmosperic & uplifting metal, not sure if uplifting is the right word in this category, but who cares?

Cultfinder - Black Thrashing Terror

TBR : 14 August 2012 By Eldritch Lunar Miasma

These UK thrashers stunned the underground with their demo in 2011 (now sold out)
and as soon as this record start spinning I can hear why, this is a great mix between black/thrash at it's best it's fast dirty & in your face thrash with influences form the old days.
Cultfinder is one of the best new acts I've heard for a long time in the thrash genre and I'm very eager to hear more from this killer band. Do not miss out on this excellent 3 track 7" 'cause this is what thrash metal is all about! It's hard to sit still during this record & I just love the drums & vocals on this release.
Be sure to order your copy before it's to late 'cause this is exactly what the title says Black Thrashing Terror!!
As said before I don't roll the dice, but if I did it would be 6/6 without doubt.

Morbid Execution - Vulgar Darkness

The Polish death metallers is back with a new full lenght named "Vulgar Darkness"
To me this was a positive surprise as I've not heard their earlier releases.

What you get here is primtive mid-tempo death metal with a very organic sound that suits the album perfectly!
Not like the typical overproduced death metal of today with loads of blastbeats & 180 BPM tempo all the way.
It's melodic, dark, ugly & at he same time they got a very nice groove trough out the wole album.

The vocals are more harsh than growly I would say.
I get a nostalgic feeling when listening to this & that's probably because of the splendid sound on this album.
I also have to mention that this "Vulgar Darkness" probably have to most necro cover of all the albums I've reviwed.
The melodies are very catchy & simple and easy to like ,so I see no reason to not check out this album!

Patronymicon (Swe) - Prime Omega

Released 4.September 2011 on Blackcrowned Records

Don't let you be mislead by the fact that this is labeled black metal, 'cause this is so much more than the typical you hear today, this has soul & feeling,it's a great combo of brutal & epic black metal in it's own unique way & the vocals & guitars impresses me very much at times here.
The album builds up nicely with some sick & geniuos riffs slowly in the background for this is more mid-tempo,excellent blended with som raw parts with some great guitar riff & solos that does not hurt at all.
It's black metal played in the old vein, but this is not a clone or something,Patronymicon deliver their own unique blend of top notch black metal.
This is an album that grows each time I listen to it & even though it's a raw atmosphere throghout the album they manage to build great melodies & captures the listener at once I would say!
I have to admit I'd never heard of this Swedish band until Blackrowned recs sent me a copy & I'm glad they did!
If you want quality, look no further!

ARVAS

The by now established band in the metal scene Arvas is now preparing their second cd.
3 years after the debut "Ad Satanas Noctum..." whitch didn't quite get the attention it deserved considering it was
a great debut album. Even though the main musicians are experienced & have been into the music scene for years.

V-Rex is the engine behind it all and Fordervelse does the drums.
There has been several members in and out,but it seems like the mentioned ones are the permanent members.

I decided to have a talk with the main man V-Rex about the new album & the future.

You have now recorded your 2nd album, what can we expect & is there any working title so far?

-Well the music is quite different compared to the first album, obviously because we have developed even more over these three years both as musicians and myself as composer. Like the last album all songs are made in good advance before even planning any recordings of the songs..

These new songs are made right after the release of  the ''Blessed'' album. I made a pre production and that was it, they are all composed within a weeks time, and I haven't really been listening to these songs since I did the pre prod.

The main difference from the last album is that the music is more catchy and very intense and fast, there are alot of different influences from the eighties thrash era etc.

So this time the press will have something to compare us to, on the ''Blessed' Album where they couldn't.

At the same time this is something unique in the genre and there are no bands in Norway who plays this kind of metal today, so hopefully fans of the genre will like this.

The Working title now is ''Upon A Throne Of Satanic Worship''

I know you've had several members during the career, who contributes on this record,is it only you and Fordervelse?

- There has been some line up changes over the years now for sure, but they were only live members and not permanently involved in Arvas in any other way.

This time we have a new live line up, and this time they all are playing on the album. So it has been pretty exiting having the whole band feeling again.

But as always, me and fordervelse are the only permanent fulltime members in Arvas.

Did the recording process go as planned?

- Yes, all has been going as planned, however some delays in the process and unexpected problems has occured though.

One thing I've always wondered ,does the name Arvas mean anything special, how did you come up with it?

- The name does not mean anything at all, I just came up with the name and liked the sound of it and that's it really.

Do you have any plans to promote the new album with gigs, have you found a steady line up to play live?

- We are going to do some gigs as soon as the album is released, when and where is not quite confirmed yet.

Is all the material written by you,or does the other members contribute with something?

- All the material is as usual composed by me, and me alone. Fordervelse has arranged the drum tracks.

Nowadays when arists earn less money since the internet came & all along with it, what motivates you to continue your work?

- Motivation comes from our fans and those who appreciate what we do. We are nothing without them, this is all for the fans.

What's you favorite/most memorable highlight during the career?

You also do the vocals on the excellent swedish act Dødsfall witch is soon available with their second album,
can you tell us a bit about that?

- Dødsfall is a project I do vocals for and I really like the music the main man is creating, it is fresh and inspiring to work with.
I only write lyrics and sings. It is always interesting and positive for an artist to work with different projects beside any main band.

Cheers V-Rex.

Thank you for the good answers & good luck with the band & projects in the future!

Arvas will play live in Drammen Norway 22.07.12 Click HERE for more info

Brume d'Automne - Brume d'Automne

Brume d'Automne is: Athros : Guitars, bass, drums Nordet : Guitars, vocals
Release date : 12 /06/2012 on SEPULCHRAL PRODUCTION
This Canadian band witch means Autumn Mist in English is new to me even though they started up in 2003. They have one full length "Fiers et Victorieux" 2 splits & and a demo behind them. I have never heard any of it so I 've got nothing to compare to,( not that this band can be compared to anyone else than themselves )but the first thing that strikes me is the sound witch is raw & suits the music well. It's somewhat chaotic in a good way, like listening to a live record. There are some good riffs in here & sometimes synth to make it even better. It's mostly raw black metal with you get here with harsh & ugly vocals as it should be! I have to admit that the more I listen to this record the better it gets,it's so far away from what you hear everyday & I really enjoy the "live" sounding tracks,it sounds like they went in studio and just recorded it all in one take almost. And by all means yes! This is a very good release if you get used to the raw & ugly sound you'll hear some beautiful compositions along the way. These guys knows how to make their metal raw as fuck and at the same time very listenable. The only negative thing about this is the folkish elements & singing witch don't fit in at all in my opinion & the vocals is a bit over-used & at times annoying at times. If you're not familiar with this band I advice you to check 'em out as they are on to something unique going on and as said is not comparable to any other band I've heard!

Mortal Infinity - District Destruction

Mortal Infinity - District Destruction To be released 15.06.2012 on Digital Media Records. These guys are heavily influenced by Kreator,Destruction,Slayer but that does no harm cause the opening track starts of with a banging tune that actually makes me want to bang my head. It's hard, fast & aggressive without beeing to serious. The album as a whole has a pure thrash attitude, hard hitting in your face vocals, blended with great riffs & the good old thrash spirit. Nine tracks is what you get here & it's worth every penny cause the melodies are mainly over 5 minutes long. Just listen to "At Dawn Of Death" witch is a brilliant example of what this band is capable of,some awesome tempo changes & surprises in that tune. And as the album spins it builds up with one great melody after another. This is an album every metal head should have the collection. It's also alot of energy in this album alongside with extremely well written tracks ,I often tend to get bored while listening to albums but this is so full of surprises & undpredictable in many ways it's hard to stop listen. But if you want quality look no further cause this is a masterpiece in my ears! With "District Destruction" they don' have to prove anything, they have proven it all & this is a fist in the face of the many so called thrash bands out there. Look no further, this is what it's all about & if you're local record dealer don't have this one?..Well,kill him!
Tracklist : Intro Thrill to Kill, At Dawn of Death, Wake of Devastation, Retribution, District Destruction, Condemned Rising, Radical Response, Sound of Brutality

Grave Desecrator - Deathspells Rising

As soon as this starts spinning I'm drawn into a cold realm with harsh vocals, cold & grim sounding black metal is what you get here. They have existed since 1998 but this sounds like 89-91 in my opinion. The first thing I notice here is the great sound on this record,it's not the overproduced mainstream shit you hear today. It feels like listening to a live recording compared to many other releases today. They manage to produce some awesome riffs & melodies witch makes me wonder what the fuck I just put on for some reason. Along with some insane synth parts besides the tracks this is a killer for sure. You just gotta love the drum parts especially on certain tracks here. This release is like eighties meets ninghties black metal in a cold atmopsphere. The tracks are mosly fast, but the record varies troughout.. You'll either love it ot hate it! I have to admit that it can be noisy at times but in this case I enjoy it. Great record along with a neat cover, nothing more to say really. It's ugly it's in your face!.. Lean back or bang your head! Stalwart - Manifest Of Refusal

Stalwart - Manifest Of Refusal Provided By - PRC Music Release: 22 May 2012 Stalwart is a technical death metal band hailing from Russia is now back with their 5th album witch delivers a solid dose of darkness combined with brutality. The keyword for this release has to be brutality combined with beauty. They for sure know how to handle their instruments, nothing new ,but good melodies! I cannot really find one negative point when it comes to the tracks, witch are all well written & played! If you like bands like Carcass,Brutal Truth,Morbid Angel but with a more symphonic touch to it. The heavily played bass alongside with the descent solo's combined with some good synth melodies takes the listener into a journey unknown. It's loaded with blastbeats ,but it actually fits on this release witch is very aggressive the way death metal used to be, with growls and nicely put basslines & compositions. I can strongly recomend this album to fans of brutal death metal. Just sit back lean & enjoy! Cause this is one of the better ones I've heard in a while.

Skygge - Heksekunst Demo 2012

Skygge "Heksekunst" Demo 2012

Tracks "Nattens Juvel,Heksekunst, Knokkelkraft"

Skygge is a new band hailing from Bergen/Norway breathed to life by Skyggemester (Vithr) handling all the instruments while Daudblodr (Gandreid) do the vocals.
They play what I would call straight forward black metal with some melodical influences. That beeing said they manage to create some top notch black metal with very good melodies without the use of synth!
The production is overall very good and creates a dark but beautiful athmosphere along with the music.

While listening to this it's like I'm going into another world or something , kinda like Throne Of Katharsis also manage to do.
I'm also quite impressed by the guitar work here and especially the slower parts makes more edge to the tracks. If they had kept the the tempo up all the way it could easily become boring, but he surely knows what he's doing so nothing is left to chance here.
Daudblodr has done a good job on this one, sick vocals that fits the music very well.

This band certainly proves that there is still possible find excellent black metal anno 2012.
And even though the main man behind this also plays in Vithr there is no similarities.
I can't predict the future, but it's clearly Skygge has a great future ahead!

RECOMMENDED!

Hellish Outcast - Your God Will Bleed - Promo 2012

HELLISH OUTCAST Your God Will Bleed
Transcend Music Release: 1 April 2012

The Norwegian thrash/death band Hellish outcast hailing from Bergen/Norway who started up in 2001 has now delivered their long-awaited debut "Your God Will Bleed".
After releasing the EP "Raping - Killing - Murder witch was a taste of what we could expect in the future.
On "Your Good Will Bleed" they recruited Thebon (Keep Of Kalessin) who joined the band on vocals in 2010.
I have to say that already on the opening track "The View So Disgusting" I can already feel that they lived up to the expectations I've had since the EP.
What they deliver on this new opus is very brutal & massive metal, at times epic melodies.
Lyrically they follow in the veins of "Raping - Killing - Murder" in other words modern warfare, politics, religious hypocrites.
They get a lot of credits from me for the way they combine the brutal energy witch surrounds the whole album with a bit more melodic parts without exaggerating it.
They don't save any gunpowder here, thats's for sure!
Brilliant tunes or instant classics if you like comes regularly out of my stereo all the way as the record is spinning and I find it hard to not tap my feet & bang my head.
It's extremely cathy tunes and a very intense drive throughout the whole album that makes me want to hear more & more.
Tracks to mention are "Genocide" & "Ten Times Stronger" witch is a good example of what these guys is capable of at their best!
"Your God Will Bleed" is one of those albums that reminds me why I bother to review albums.
A masterpiece definitely worth to checking out and buy! You won't regret it!

"Musically, we've stayed true to our nature - always trying to push the limits of what is healthy aggression. To combine pure Norwegian brutality with the fine British steel of Transcend Music is a venture we've been looking forward to!" says drummer Mads, aka 'Alkolust'.
"...Your ears will bleed" promises vocalist and frontman Thebon...

..."and If it's too heavy for ya" concludes Alkolust, "fuck off!!"

Line-up:
Thebon - vocals (Keep of Kalessin) | Alkolust - drums (BYFROST) | Max Morbid - bass (BREED) | Martin Legreid - guitars (66 Crusher)

A good demo well worth buying considering these guys actually printed it on tape, the sound quality is overall good & fits the music witch is death/thrash the old school way. I like the raw atmosphere of this demo.
The vocals are not the standard growling/screaming of today, but reminds more about early death/trash/speed bands.
It' nothing new here really but if you're looking for good music look no further!!..

Everos - Descensus Ad Inferos

Erevos (Greece) ¨Descensus Ad Inferos¨

Produced By Dan Swano in Unisound Studios 2011

The Greek black metalers Everos formed in 2004 have now delivered their debut album after some demos & ep's.
First of all I have to give them credits for a nice cover!
As it starts spinning the melodies builds up sotly towards a more aggresive touch. When I listen further I notice they have some thrashy guitar riffs at times luckily or else it would be boring pretty soon since the synth dominates most tracks..
They create a mystical dark athmospere when it comes to the use of synth ,whitch is used alot here, and there is no doubt that synth is one of the main instruments here. Reminds at times very much about early Cradle Of Filth,Rotting Christ...
It's kinda weird how some of the tracks change from synth based metal to more ¨brutal¨ thrash at moments & suddenly I'm in for some growling insted of the high pitched vocals.
¨Descensus Ad Inferos¨ sureley has it's moments. The sound is very good & the album overall is well produced.
If you like melodic black metal you should check it out.
Everos has have played with Mayhem,Satyricon, Gehenna,Necrodeath,Archon Infaustus, and many more, plus a tour in France and live shows abroad. Now the band is preparing for live shows in Greece and abroad, for the promotion of their album.

Tracks to mention here are ´Kerveros¨ & ´Grotesque Blasphemy (Slaughter Pt. 1)´

Nocturnal Torment

Nocturnal Torment (US) ¨They Come At Night¨

Relesed on Dethgasm Records Feb.09 2012

Style : oldschool death metal

This is one of those releases I enjoy from the second it start spinning.
Nocturnal Torment started up in '88 but went in various directions to concentrate on other projects.

Luckily they returned again with one hell of an album and nothing is left to chance here! These guys surely know how to create dark death metal with simple but genious riffs, also there is a lot of thrash influences here. Picture yourself listening to one of you favoutite underground death/thrash metal bands in late 80's or early 90's.
This is the feeling I get when listening to this masterpiece.
The vocals are dark but not too growly & fits the music perefct.
What I also like about this record is that they've managed to keep the "dirty" sound throughout the whole album so it doesent sound as overproduced as many of todays DM bands.
This is ugly raw in your face death metal the way it should be.

I don't usually roll the dice, but if I did it would be a strong 6(66)

Highly recommended!

Wykked Wytch

The female fronted Wykked Wytch has just released their 5th studio album four yeras since the last album.
The production on this one is massive & they deliever what I would call melodic mix of thrash/death. The vocals sometimes reminds of death/grindcore as it varies beetween growl/screaming & sometimes clean vocals, but it actually fits the music well.
It's very technical trashy, melodic tunes they deliver on this album.
At times it reminds of Cradle of Filth & Dimmu Borgir's newer stuff not musicwise but more the way they structured the songs and the use of samples, but that beeing said these guys sure have a thing of their own.
They have also covered Metallicas "Fade To Black" ,a weird but descent cover. All in all it's a good release but for me it gets a bit boring after hearing the whole album but if you're into well played technical melodic metal with a movie soundtrack like atmosphere you should ckeck it out.

In additional WYKKED WYTCH news, the band is pleased announce a
recently revamped line lineup.

WYKKED WYTCH LIVE:

Ipek-All Vocals
Nate-Lead Guitar
Kenny-Bass
Salvatore-Keys and Samples
Matt-2nd Guitar
Pat-3rd Guitar
Weston-Drums

____________________________________________________________________

WYKKED WYTCH has signed with Goomba Music for the release of their upcoming fifth full-length album, The Ultimate Deception. Coming back strong off 2008's Memories of a Dying Whore - the group's most successful and critically-acclaimed album - The Ultimate Deception continues where the previous album left off and continues to push the boundaries of extreme music as well as the legacy of WYKKED WYTCH.

Led by the demonic vocal assault of frontwoman Ipek, Wykked Wytch is a female-fronted extreme metal band hailing from South Florida. The band blends a unique mixture of black, death, thrash metal with melody, technicality, and aggression to create their own signature sound which has gained them a strong cult following throughout the world.

Regarding the recent signing and forthcoming release, Ipek made the following comments,

"We are very excited and proud to announce that Wykked Wytch has signed with Goomba Music for the release of our fifth full-length album The Ultimate Deception. Over the past two years we worked really hard creating a modern metal masterpiece and with Goomba behind us we will spread the word worldwide. We would also like to thank Mark & the crew at Goomba for this new partnership. It was the right choice for us and glad to know there is an experienced team of industry vets behind the label that respect the integrity of their artists. Look out for the new album The Ultimate Deception out in 2012 with lots of touring to follow!"

The Ultimate Deception marks the addition of lead guitarist / songwriter Nate Poulson to the group. Always determined to break new ground and discover new talent, frontwoman/founder Ipek has teamed with Nate, who composed nine badass tunes that add a whole new dimension and flavor to the band's constantly evolving sound. Taking a modern approach to the group's already established sound, the songs are heavy, technical, and melodic with each one standing on its own. Showcased on this release are vocalist Ipek's true abilities that drive the album.

Not afraid to take chances, Ipek doesn't hold back and has stepped out of her comfort zone; moving from death growls to high pitched screams to operatic, and clean catchy choruses in the course of a single song. The intense and insane vocals are performed by "one" woman, not three different vocalists. Also featured is one of the best drummers in metal today, Kevin Talley (Daath, Six Feet Under, Chimaira) who appears as a session musician compliments the songs with his killer double bass and blast work. The album was recorded in April/May 2011 at Lambesis Studios in San Diego, CA with amazing production from engineer Daniel Castleman (As I Lay Dying, Winds of Plague), who recorded & mixed. Finishing touches were handled by Alan Douches (The Dillinger Escape Plan, The Black Dahlia Murder), who mastered at West West Side Music in New Windsor, NY. Cover Artwork by Marcelo Vasco (Dimmu Borgir, The Faceless). The Ultimate Deception includes 10 tracks with a running time of 47 minutes. 9 original tracks and a cover of Metallica's "Fade To Black".
